Shoshosne, ID. celebrated its second annual Basque Heritage Day
last August 2nd at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.
Activities for the day included displays of sheep camps,

Lincoln County Basque family history displays, food and vendors.
At noon, Idaho Humanities Council speaker David Lachiondo
At noon, Idaho Humanities Council speaker David Lachiondo
discussed the Basques and the Spanish Civil War.
Lachiondo is the son and grandson of Basque immigrants to Idaho.
He was born in 1947 and is career educator who has served as a teacher,
guidance counselor, school and district administrator
in Idaho’s public and parochial schools.
He has served as an adjunct professor of Education for the University of Idaho,
as well as a special lecturer of Basque Studies at Boise State University.
He is the director of the Basque studies program at Boise State.
At 2 p.m., Brent Barras with Canyon Studios
At 2 p.m., Brent Barras with Canyon Studios
showed the documentary “Basques in the West.”
The documentary tells the story of people often overlooked in Western History.
The story features Basques living in Idaho, Oregon, California, Wyoming,
Montana, Washington, New Mexico and Nevada.

Gravesites at Shoshone Cemetery were decorated with Basques flags to mark the day".
